Well
I can’t believe it’s nearly January all ready, well what
a three months that was. It all started way back at the
AGM, seems months ago now, thanks for your support and
kind comments for my year ahead, I wish the Past Captain
- Steve Owen - all the best for the future and giving me
the opportunity to be captain of a great golf club.
Then
the DRIVE IN day arrived I was picked up from home by my
Vice a couple of nice warm drinks from a Past Captain
who tells me it takes away all the nerves!!! (it
doesn’t) then it was off to the tee.
I
would like to say the same support was forthcoming from
my fellow golfers and friends but the comments and
quotes that I got over many days after the AGM and the
morning was great Banter from every one -Sorry Shane I
didn’t top it or miss it!! I will never forget it
every-time I stand on the 1st Tee. All I can
say if you every get the opportunity to experience
teeing-off with a large crowd watching I WOULD and you
will then know how it feels first hand.
I
was ready to DRIVE OFF all felt good aiming at the
bunker by the 1st fairway, that I heard the
past Lady Captain reminding me where I finished with my
tee shot on the Saturday, well it then went in the same
direction but a lot further flying over Paula’s hut and
landing in the bunker next to the 12th Green
– all I can say is the pictures and the swing looks
great.
Then
it was straight into the Captain /Vice Challenges, well
all started quietly (Craig had not arrived yet) after
our customary bacon butty and cup of tea it was into the
matches, I would like to thank all our opposition from
Oct to Dec, we have had some great games and furthermore
some great shots and some superb putting on those great
greens (thanks Francis - sorry Duncan), I would like to
say we have reminded unbeaten much to many a members
surprise (the pro even smiles at me now) but once you
have played with us you will see why, my Vice talks you
to death and I just hole the odd putt to help out !!!
Can’t wait for the New Year and to continue our
challenges and all the banter.
Then
the Children Christmas party - what a great and humbling
experience that was - never to be missed, the club house
was full with 44 children waiting in expectation of
Santa and he did not disappoint as he landed on the 18th
fairway and drove straight down the middle (much to
June’s disappointment) by his able assistant Mr ELF,
Santa would like to thank Anne Bluck for all her effects
in helping the Elf with the present bag from Greenland.
Santa has so many memories of that afternoon but he
would like to thank Jamie who looked after him so well
throughout the afternoon.
The
Ladies Christmas party was next and I wish to send my
apologies to all those that attended I was unable to
carry out my serving duties due to work commitments that
took longer than expected but I hope my Vice Captain was
an able substitute, the night went very well with loads
of Christmas festivity had by all I am told, I am sure
the Lady Captain will pick up more detail in the next
blog.
The
Christmas Dance followed quickly after and what a great
evening had by all the band, food and entertainment was
excellent, thank you all for your support we managed to
raise well over £300 for the Captains charity, thank you
to Craig and Carole for all their hard work in selling
the tickets, the next great night will be New Years Eve
I hope to see you join us then.
I
hope you will join me and the Lady Captain on Christmas
Eve for a bite to eat and to see the Christmas
period begin in the clubhouse from 6.30 pm
A
Happy New Year to you all, your family and friends.
Your
Captain
