Taking Glen Gorse Golf Club Forward
I am delighted to announce that Council have agreed
that from October, the four officers voted onto
Council (on a rotating basis) each year will be
elected to perform a defined ‘job role’. I really
believe this offers us a fantastic opportunity to
take Glen Gorse Golf Club forward and really start
to develop the club in the future.
The idea is to have 4 positions on council; a
Membership Officer, Sales and Marketing Officer,
Development Officer and Ladies Officer. These
job roles are still in ‘draft’ form at the moment
but my initial expectations will be as follows (I am
sure these job roles will evolve and develop over
time).
1) The Membership Officer will be elected
onto council to look after all things relating to
both looking after the existing membership and
recruiting new members. The person will be charged
with the responsibility for any advertising that is
required to attract new members, interviewing
potential members and also providing a link for the
new members to integrate into the club in addition
to developing the 'Member get Member' incentive
Scheme. This will hopefully involve playing a round
of golf with both prospective and recently joined
members, running new members’ evenings and also
providing the link into the social committee and
social activities. In addition the person charged
with this responsibility will liaise with existing
members to ensure we are providing everything we
possibly can to make our members enjoyment of the
club the best we could possibly hope for.
2) The second role will be a Sales and Marketing
Officer, this person will also look after
general sponsorship and marketing related activities
including maximising use of the website (which is
already the best in the country!) and all our
current advertising areas in relation to; score
cards, tee signs, sponsorship for our scratch league
teams etc. A key activity will also be to increase
the club's income from 'non subscription' activities
to provide the club with the finances to aid future
development plans. This person will also be charged
with the responsibility of looking after our
corporate membership deals. We have recently just
set up our first corporate membership deal which
will hopefully not only generate significant new
revenue for the golf club, but will also be conduit
to identify potential new members as well.
3) We are also intending to appoint a
Development Officer onto council who will look
after the strategic development of golf club and be
charged with overseeing all developments deemed
outside of normal day to day expenditure (that
usually sit within the current standing
committees). It’s important that the person in this
role is charged with developing a rolling 5 year
plan and a defined development process that will
help us identify development opportunities going
forward and prioritise them accordingly. This
person will also liaise with the House and Course
committees to ensure that any revenue generated is
utilised to maximum benefit.
4) There will also be a Ladies Officer, who
will provide liaison between the Ladies Committee
section and the Council. This role will be in
addition to the Lady Captain being co-opted onto
Council each year. The Ladies section is an
extremely important part of the golf club and it’s
important we do as much as we can to involve the
Ladies in the golf club going forward. It’s
fantastic at the moment to see that the Ladies are
busy recruiting new members and I think at the last
count there were 23 new Lady Members who have joined
recently. A key part of this job role will also be
to help shape the club's policy with regards to the
forthcoming legislation relating to equality.
Are you interested in helping to develop GGGC?
I firmly believe that having these ‘defined job
roles’ on Council will really help to drive the club
forward. I would actively encourage any member who
thinks that they may have the skills, desire and
enthusiasm to be able to offer a significant
contribution in one of these areas, to put their
name up for election at forthcoming AGM in October.
It is extremely important that we have people on
Council and all the standing Committees who have the
skills and the ability and above all else the desire
to drive the club forward. I hope these changes
will make a significant difference.
It is also important to note though that the people
elected to these roles will have the ability to form
their own 'sub committees' to obtain as much help as
possible - they won't be expected to do it on their
own!
I believe it is extremely important that we get more
members of the club involved in taking GGGC
forward. If you think you may be interested in
finding out more about any of these job roles then
please call me on 07887 582603 or email me at paul@providentsolutions.co.uk
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
Paul Smith - Captain
