Lying on the north-western coast of Norfolk,
Hunstanton Golf Club is a real challenge for all
links enthusiasts. The course, one of the highest
calibre, offers countless superb holes and boasts
greens that are amongst the finest and slickest in
England.
Thanks to its dramatic bunkering and pitched green,
the 188 yard 16th is the most visually striking hole
on the course. The green, with its slight
right-to-left angle and slope, offers the player
many options on how to play the tee shot.

The near punchbowl nature of the front half of the
green is a welcome sight into the prevailing wind
and provides for that old saying of ‘hard par, easy
bogey.’
However, in 1974 a remarkable event occurred during
the playing of the Eastern Counties Foursomes. A
Leicestershire County player
holed in one at the 16th not once, not twice but
three times and on three consecutive days!
Who was it that performed this feat of incalculable
odds and ensured his place in the historical annals
of English golf? Well, it was none other than Glen
Gorse member, Bob Taylor. Bob used a 1 iron into the
wind on the first day and a 6 iron on the second and
third days.
31 years later (2005) he played the hole again and
put his tee shot to within 6 feet of the cup!.

Earlier this year,
a commemorative plaque was unveiled on the 16th tee
at Hunstanton and Bob was made an honorary member
there in recognition of his unique achievement.
Many congratulations Bob from everyone at Glen Gorse
Golf Club. |
