Dominic Fitzpatrick
admitted it was one of those days when everything went
right as he and Glen Gorse's Paul Wallace won the
BMW-supported PGA International Pro-Captain Challenge
Midland Region qualifier at Staverton Park. The Oadby
club duo carded an 11 under par round of 60 to book
their place in the final in Turkey which will take place
over 36 holes at the PGA Sultan Course at Antalya Golf
Club in November (7-8). But despite a superb round at
the Daventry course, they only won by one shot ahead of
Stonebridge's Geoff Lane and PGA professional Darren
Murphy.
The pair
finished with five birdies in a
row but that did not tell the whole story. Fitzpatrick
added: "I holed from the bunker at the 14th and then
from 70 yards at the 17th. "When it's your day then it's
your day, everything I went for seemed to go down. And
Paul got an eagle at the 11th. "We had quite a wait to find
out we'd won and in the end it was quite close but I
always thought it would be enough.
Dominic says "Most of
my days are spent as a club pro and I only tend to play
one-day events and pro-ams, but I felt I had one good
result in me and this was it."
Glen Gorse captain
Wallace, 56, is a chartered accountant. He plays off a
14 handicap and has been playing golf for 20 years.
Wallace said: "I can't
believe that we'll be going to Turkey in December, it
was a fantastic day."
The final will be
contested by just seven clubs from each of the PGA's
seven regions, plus an international qualifier. The
professionals will compete for a £7,500 prize fund and
the competitors will also enjoy a luxury stay at the
five star Sirene Beach and Hotel Resort on the shores of
the Turkish Mediterranean. As part of the prize they
will also be chauffeur driven to and from the airport in
a top of the range BMW.
Congratulations to
Dominic and Paul from everyone at GGGC - well done boys!
