GLEN GORSE GOLF CLUB SENIORS SECTION AGM

The Senior Section AGM was held on 24th October 2007 and was attended by 46 seniors.

Election of Officers

Captain 2006-2007          Malcolm Simpson
Vice-Captain 2006 2007 John Pardoe

Outgoing Captain’s Report – Season 2006-2007

At the outset I would like to ask all present to remember three of our members who are no longer with us, Neville Williams, our immediate past captain, Gerry Baker and Keith Vardy. The contribution that all made to the Seniors Section was considerable, in particular Neville in his role as Captain, all were good friends, keen golfers and are sadly missed.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my year as Seniors Captain and I must attribute this to all Seniors at Glen who made me most welcome and supported me in all that I have attempted and most importantly kept signing-up to play in all matches. I must make special mention of Malcolm Simpson (Vice-Captain) for his superb support throughout the year and for many suggestions he has made and helped implement throughout the year.

A total of 88 Seniors joined the Leicestershire Seniors Golf Society and of these 54 played for the team. There were 21 ‘competitive’ matches throughout the summer and we won 10, lost 10 and drew one. In addition the ‘new format’ fixtures with the Glen Gorse Ladies and Rabbits were great fun and a welcome change.

My year started off with my ‘Away Day’ at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club in Warwickshire a fun day was had by all.

We have run a number of competitions throughout the year and these have been well supported and hotly contested, the winners were: Winter Foursomes – Terry Jones and Bryan Fallows Winter Stableford – Don Owen and David Sellicks Spring Greensome – Colin Durant and Mike Mackley Summer Knockout – Trevor Fogg AGM AM/AM – J Mee, B Rowlett, T Mobbs & T Fogg

Wellingborough Seniors Invitation Day - Glen Gorse Team placed second. Alan Strachan & Neville Williams best 4BBB score.

This has been a year of ‘innovation’, never something easy to implement but with Malcolm’s help much has been achieved and the enthusiastic response by fellow Seniors has made our efforts well worth while.

1. The Seniors website section was introduced on the GGGC site.
2. The ‘WELCOME’ boards were a real hit, these were Malcolm’s idea and have drawn very positive comments from all visiting teams. 3. Match Day format with the Clubhouse opening at 08.30 with complimentary coffee available have been well received.
4. Open Day and Internal Competition Day formats have been totally changed. Malcolm and John Pardoe were instrumental in the decision to move with registration into the Clubhouse
5. Summer Knockout – this ‘new’ competition was well supported. 6. AGM – this has been separated from the Club’s Bell Trophy and linked with an AM/AM shotgun start competition, this has been an evident success.
7. Autumn Golf Break – 16 of us went to Beadlow Manor Golf Complex in Bedfordshire between 9th and 12th October. A great time was had by us all, let’s hope we can repeat it next year.

Before concluding I would like to thank: Francis Kempster (Course Manager) and his staff for the excellent presentation of the course during a very difficult year, all visiting teams thought the course was excellent. Let us be honest the quality of the course is ‘all important’. Dick and Elaine Harris for the excellent meals served throughout the year, once again all comments from visitors and Glen members were very favourable. Jenny James and Carol in the Office for helping with fixtures and for helping out with administrative matters throughout the year.

Finally, best wishes to next year’s Seniors Captain.

It has been a privilege to serve as Captain and I wish the new Captain every success and am confident that he will take the Section forward effectively and am confident that you will give him the same wholehearted support that you gave me.

Many thanks for a wonderful year.

Alan Strachan (Seniors Captain 2006-07) October 24th 2007
